Concept New Volkswagen Beetle R-Line Offers Visual Upgrades Inside and Out Volkswagen can tease U.S. customers with the Europe-only Scirocco and Phaeton, but the automaker’s new Beetle R-Line packages actually stand a chance of eventually making it to our shores. Based on the European-spec Volkswagen Beetle Sport model, the R-Line packages visually upgrade the coupe, distinguishing it from lesser Beetles.

Volkswagen Beetle Sport R Line interior seats 300x187 imageWe’ve seen special-edition Volkswagen Beetles before, in concept and production car forms. The Beetle R-Line exterior package includes 18-inch wheels (polished 19s are available in white or black) plus black-grained air inlets and chrome trim just above the fog lights — we’ve included a 2012 Beetle in the gallery below for front fascia comparison. An R-line badge sits just in front of the doors and there’s a rear diffuser, as well. The package can be purchased on any of the European-spec Beetle’s colors. If you’re looking for a more eye-catching Beetle in the U.S., Volkswagen offers various graphics like an eight ball on the driver’s side door and a Wolfsburg coat of arms on the roof.
Inside, the sport seats are made from what Volkswagen calls an “active-breathing fabric” and, not surprisingly, there are R-Line badges on the front headrests. Light gray seams are featured on the steering wheel, gear shifter lever boot, and handbrake grip.
The Beetle Sport R-Line can also be had with black leather, and with three engines including the U.S.-spec powertrains from the Beetle Turbo and Beetle TDI. While the R-Line interior and exterior packages add to the Beetle’s looks — just like the bolder Tiguan R-Line — we wouldn’t be disappointed if the subtle special-edition stayed in Europe. What do you think? Should the Volkswagen Beetle R-Line packages come to the U.S.? Take our poll below.
